Logic Problem Solution:
Senior Awards Night
From the introduction and clues, there are three girls--Katie,
Lynette, and Maureen--and four boys--Andy, Ben, Chad, and
David--among the seven award winners. By clue 6, two of
the girls are Lynette and Miss Yary. By clue 9, Lynette
isn't Miss Uxley (3), who is thus the third female award
winner. Neither Miss Uxley (3), Lynette, nor Miss Yary (6)
won the Community Service Award, so one of the boys did.
He isn't Andy (11), who is then the second boy. Andy didn't
win the Boys Scholar-Athlete Award (1), so a third boy did.
By clue 4, David won the Leadership Award; he is the fourth
male winner. Andy isn't the student whose last name is
Vandross and who won the Valedictorian Award (5); Lynette is
Valedictorian Vandross. Since Andy didn't win the Technology
Award (11), one of the girls did--Miss Uxley (13). Then
Miss Yary won the Girls Scholar-Athlete Award and is Maureen
(14). Katie is Uxley. By elimination, Andy won the Young
Entrepreneur Award. By clue 8, Ben won the Boys Scholar-Athlete
Award, and Chad was honored for Community Service. Andy isn't
Ruiz (7), nor is Chad (2) or Ben (2, 10); David is Ruiz.
Neither Chad (2) nor Ben (2, 10) is Stein, so Andy is. By
clue 12, Scholar-Athete Ben is Trout, and Chad is West. The
seven major honorees at Senior Awards Night are
- Andy Stein, Young Entrepreneur
- Ben Trout, Boys Scholar-Athlete
- Chad West, Community Service
- David Ruiz, Leadership
- Katie Uxley, Technology
- Lynette Vandross, Valedictorian
- Maureen Yary, Girls Scholar-Athlete
