Logic Problem Solution:
Zoo Favorites
By clue 1, the Fonz family saw Jenny's favorite animal, saw Gus the
Gorilla, and saw the animal one child bought stickers of in
consecutive order. By clue 4, the family saw Michelle's favorite,
saw the animal one child bought a glass figurine of, and visited
the Cheetah Conservation Station to see Chiku in consecutive order.
Clues 1 and 4 must have at least one animal in common: either Jenny
liked Chiku best or Michelle purchased the stickers. The Fonz
family didn't visit Alex's favorite animal last (5), so either Ben's
or Carrie's favorite was at the 5th stop. Between clues 1 and 4,
then, if Jenny's favorite were Chiku the Cheetah, either Ben or
Carrie would have bought the stickers--no (6). So, combining clues
1 and 4, the Fonzes saw Jenny's favorite National Zoo animal 1st,
enjoyed watching Gus the Gorilla 2nd, saw Michelle's (who bought
stickers) favorite 3rd, were at the animal of which one child
got a glass figurine 4th, and saw Chiku the Cheetah 5th. By clue
5, Alex's favorite is Gus the Gorilla and Michelle's is Taj the
white Tiger. The Fonzes visited the Elephant House and saw Jana
the baby Giraffe 4th, and the child who liked Chiku the Cheetah
is Ben (3). By elimination, the family saw the newly arrived
Tian Tian at the Panda House 1st; and Carrie is the child who
adores the baby Giraffe Jana. By clue 2, Jenny bought a book
about the pandas. Gus the Gorilla is on the poster Alex got,
and Ben bought a cup (7). The Fonz children saw their National
Zoo favorites and purchased souvenirs as follows:
- 1st: Jenny, Tian Tian the Panda, book
- 2nd: Alex, Gus the Gorilla, poster
- 3rd: Michelle, Taj the white Tiger, stickers
- 4th: Carrie, Jana the baby Giraffe, glass figurine
- 5th, Ben, Chiku the Cheetah, cup
